Tick Bite: First Aid
By Cory Schuett, 18 Feb 20:42
This article explains what to do in case of a tick bite.
Ticks can pass on bacteria that cause complications, such as Lyme disease or Rocky Mountain spotted fever. The risk of catching one of these diseases varies depending on what part of the country you live in and how well you protect yourself.
Here is what to do if a tick has bitten you:
1. Carefully remove the tick. Use tweezers to get a hold of the tick at its head, making sure you don't crush it.
2. Put the tick in a sealable container and bring it to your doctor's appointment, if you can.
3. Wash both your hands and around the bite mark.
4. Call your doctor if you can't remove the tick or if you develop a rash, fever, stiff neck, muscle ache or swollen lymph nodes.
If you develop a strong headache, problems breathing, paralysis or chest pains, call your local emergency number.
