Addiction Treatment With A View
By Admin Editor, 12 Feb 12:53
We all hear about the high-end drug and alcohol rehab centers in such ritzy locations as Hollywood, Malibu, Las Vegas, as well as the notoriously high prices and incredible amenities they offer.
Meanwhile, when the average layperson thinks of a more affordable and accessible rehab center, one imagines a sterile, lonely and frighteningly restrictive hospital room at best and a dirty, low-lit, crime-ridden jail cell at worst. Almost as an after-thought, one wonders if these options, whether expensive or affordable, are effective. It appears that the high-end rehabs offer an approach more often based on holistic treatment and all-around good health.
High-end addiction treatment programs offer an exotic array of amenities designed to help patients relieve stress and emotionally detox from the life that many claim pushes them into their addictions. Some of these services include lavish massages, scenic views and walks, meditation and yoga rooms. One such clinic boasts spa treatments, another resort offers personal chefs, and yet another features horseback riding. Why is there such a vast variety of expensive offerings? In the world of expensive treatment centers, you have to be competitive and offer services appealing to a particular market that often includes celebrities and millionaires.
One thing both the elite and standard centers seem to agree on is the need for patients to pursue physical health and fitness. Most rehab centers offer gyms, spas and pools, with the more expensive ones resembling a dream vacation. All of them foster a healthy diet for their patients by serving nutritious meals, though the best clinics provide gourmet chefs with a menu to match even the most eccentric of connoisseur.
Of course, when necessary, all medication is monitored. In fact, some of the more luxurious centers offer a full in-patient drug treatment program where the patients' other medical conditions can be cared for. A few select rehabs maintain strict schedules where patients must wake and sleep at exact times, much like a psychiatric hospital, according to some critics.
Finally, what is a rehab center if not a place where patients dealing with all sorts of addictions and mental disorders can get help? Many addiction treatment centers hold AA meetings and other occasions where patients dealing with the same problems can network and share stories of their success or failure, while others provide both group and individual therapy sessions to help each client through their troubling times.
Lavish rehab clinics offer all of these amenities and many more, but the question at the end of the day is often: does any of it work? When one watches the way celebrities bounce in and out of the most expensive centers, sometimes in the same day, it seems that there really is only one answer. However, many of these addicted stars have become so enamored with the spotlight and the party it brings; they never truly want to fix their life. They enter a drug abuse program that offers a simple detox and general rehabilitation course and then walk out thinking they’ve been cured. Since they were never given time to mentally repair from the addiction, they fall back into their old habits and eventually land right back in drug and alcohol rehab. With a guiding hand and a little will power, they could have easily learned how to avoid their vices and stay out of rehabs in the future.
To effectively judge the quality and success of a treatment program, it's important to realize that addictions stem from any combination of a vast multitude of possible causes. Alcoholism and drug abuse have been called psychological disorders, evolving from chemical imbalances, deep-seated psychiatric problems, and unresolved emotional trauma. Some addictions are triggered by a genetic predisposition to a need for a high, or an “escape.” Other addictions begin as a coping mechanism, and evolve into barriers against needing to face real problems. It's important that an effective drug treatment programs treat addictions as symptoms, and endeavor to find and treat the underlying problem.
